Add Spice to Your Vacation with a Cooking Class

Maybe you’re an aspiring cook or maybe you’d like to learn more about organic farming hands-on. You can do both at the Ballymaloe Cookery School located just outside of Cork, Ireland.

Since 1983, this family-run business has offered a selection of now over 30 courses ranging from a half day class on How to Make Homemade Butter, Youghurt, and Cheeses, up to a five-day Intensive Introductory Cooking course.

The Ballymaloe Cookery School staff picks fresh ingredients daily from the on-site 100-acre organic farm featuring gardens worthy of tours. Talented chefs and instructors include owner Darina Allen; award-winning chef Rory O’Connell; and Ireland native Rachel Allen.

Serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner daily, the on-site Ballymaloe House restaurant features a delicious buffet of homemade pâtés, salads, and shellfish, on Sunday nights.

Ballymaloe Cookery School also offers accommodations for cookery students within the grounds of the school starting from €850 per week at 11 Orchard Gardens, which sleeps from 6 – 8 guests. The Rocket House, located only three miles away in Ballycotton, has the added bonus of offering breathtaking views from the cliff top trails; fishing; and excellent bird watching.

The culinary school is easy to get to: choose a Cork Airport car hire and drive east approximately 20 miles along the N25 following the rolling hills to the coastal town of Shanagarry, easily one of the most picturesque parts of Ireland.
