Discover: Puerto Rico

In the northern Caribbean lies an island of only 110 miles long and 35 miles wide – rich in history, culture, nature and teeming with white sand beaches, parks, mountains, and natural wonders – this is Puerto Rico.

Closer than you think – 3 ½ hours from New York, Washington, DC, and Atlanta; 4 ½ from Chicago and Dallas; 2 ½ hours from Miami – Puerto Rico offers a year round average temperature of 80°F.

Flying into Puerto Rico will take most visitors on a visit to San Juan, a spectacular combination of old and new. Old San Juan features Spanish colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, market places, and the almost 500-year-old El Morro fortress, a World Heritage Site. Here visitors will find quaint restaurants, cafes, galleries, and museums to explore aimlessly. The Condado area of new San Juan consists of beach front hotels, fine dining, casinos, and entertainment galore.

Things not to be missed include:
  • the islands of Vieques and Culebra which consist of small laid back beach towns, perfect for soaking up the sun
  • a visit to Ponce including the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe
  • El Yunque Rain Forest which showcases amazing flora and fauna
  • one of the world’s largest cave systems, Camuy Caves
  • Porta Coeli church in San German, one of the oldest churches in the Western Hemisphere
  • and the world’s largest radio telescope at the Arecibo Observatory.
With no passport required for United States citizens, this is a nearcation that’s hard to beat!
