Martinique Romance...A Love Story

Far from the crowded beaches of summer, Martinique’s entire coastline offers up a profusion of quiet, isolated coves and inlets, magnificent with their coco palms and seagrape trees standing guard over luminous white or sparkling black sandy beaches. Or perhaps you would prefer to bask alone in your hotel room’s private swimming pool? Or indulge in breakfast in bed looking out over the gorgeous Baie des Flamands, which separates the capital, Fort-de-France, from the village of Trois-Ilets.

Every different landscape in Martinique inspires romance in its own way, each as unique as the spectacular sunsets that paint the sky at dusk: take a trip in a catamaran to the islets of François or Robert, discover the fantastic panoramas from the top of the famous Mount Pelée, the majestic volcano that rules the Island of Flowers. In Fort-de-France, take a stroll at nightfall along the Malecon, amid children in strollers and grilled peanut vendors. Relive the love story of Joséphine de Beauharnais, a native of Martinique, and at the Musée de la Pagerie, read the heady letter she exchanged with her lover, Napoleon Bonaparte, future Emperor of France. Enjoy a day in the limpid waters of Josephine’s Bath, one of the most popular fonds-blancs, and taste “ti-punch” and crispy Creole fritters far out into the ocean – but just waist-deep in the warm, turquoise water!

In Martinique you can get that Robinson Crusoe feeling without depriving your other senses. Gourmet or water’s edge restaurants will thrill you with a parade of pleasures for the mouth and delights for the eye. As you wander in a market, let the merchants tempt you with homemade concoctions like “7th heaven” or taste the delicious maracuja, the famous passion fruit.

It is hard not to think of romance on an island that combine French sophistication with a sensuous and fun-loving creole joie de vivre! Wherever you go on the island you are surrounded by the colors and splendour that were once brilliantly captured on canvas by French artist Paul Gauguin.

Martinique is ready and waiting to offer you an extraordinary experience of a lifetime. It feels so good dancing under the starry night!
