Why Use a Travel Agent?

When you're planning your next vacation, navigating your way through the vast amount of information on the internet can be daunting, to say the least.  What advice can I give you as a former travel agent/agency owner?  Use a travel agent.

Why Use a Travel Agent?

Because they're knowledgeable, experienced and can provide options you may not have thought of.  And generally, travel agents can offer you the best prices as well as peace of mind in knowing they'll fight for you to help make things right if something goes wrong.

It's All in the Details

When it's time to spend your hard earned vacation dollars, your travel agent can tell you about: sales & discounts, the cheapest day to fly, promotions like kids fly free, the most romantic restaurant, where you can shop for that Gucci bag, show tickets, local transportation, rental cars, companion flies free, maximizing your frequent flyer points, pre-paying for that damned blanket & pillow, along with...well, you get the idea.  Many clients also specialize in niche travel - specific destinations, activities, weddings, family, cruising, Disneyland, Disneyworld or even Disneyland Paris - so be sure to ask for the designated expert.  To me, the service of a travel agent is invaluable and unlimited in what they will do for you.

One-Stop Travel Agent Shopping

If there are many aspects to your trip (and when is there not?) - flights, hotels, tours, car rentals, transfers, insurance protection - your travel agent is a source of one-stop shopping.  Simply rattle off the things you need and leave the researching/headaches to the trained professionals, i.e. your travel agent.  Even if your travel agent charges you a fee for this service, it's worth it's weight in gold.  Wow, all you'll need to do is go on your holiday and relax - no more late night researching, bookmarking a unlimited number of pages, sending blanket emails to which no response is ever received - you just need to pack and be on your way.

Get the Best Pricing With a Travel Agent

Really?  You bet!  Travel agencies have access to best pricing: all the latest sales, free upgrades, free nights, and more!  If you're looking for very cheap holidays, enlisting the help of a travel agent will prove to be invaluable.  It pays to join your favorite travel agent's email list or to follow them on Facebook or Twitter to ensure you're getting the latest and greatest ;)

Check Their Credentials

In the name of being a reputable company, ask if your travel agency is a member of (by country):
Australia - AFTA (Australian Federation of Travel Agents)
Canada -  ACTA (Association of Canadian Travel Agencies)
UK - ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents)
US - ASTA (American Society of Travel Agents)
In North America, you may commonly see the IATA (International Association of Travel Agents) symbol which means your travel agency is accredited to issue airline tickets.
