Thanks to our friends over at Cheap Flights for offering their thoughts on Hot Travel Trends for 2014. I totally agree that many Americans planning a vacation now seek out destinations in the US Territories like San Juan, Puerto Rico, or St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. And why not? No passport required makes them an attractive destination, no doubt.

Let's take a look at this year's Hot Travel Trends!

  • Denver, CO - as Denver is the major hub for airlines including Frontier, Spirit, JetBlue and Southwest, this is a great city to visit and the perfect starting point for your mountain getaway
  • Myrtle Beach, SC - this beautiful beach town also has the advantage of being on the route of several major airlines; visitors can enjoy amusement parks, beaches, water sports, fishing, festivals and even free activities for the whole family to enjoy including tiger viewing, museums and the boardwalk

  • Los Cabos, Mexico - as a relatively safe Mexico destination, Los Cabos is one of the ports of call on many Mexican Riviera cruise ship itineraries; it remains a favorite for fun, food, and a range of accommodations designed for every budget
  • Brazil - with the World Cup this summer and the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is definitely on everyone's travel wish list; think the Amazon Rainforest, spectacular Iguacu Falls, colorful Colonial architecture, and of course, the famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio
  • Nicaragua - this Central American country is perfect for the adventure lover: sand boarding, snorkeling, scuba diving and more
  • Albania - rich in history, think beaches, archaeological sites, olives & grapes
  • Estonia - this small European country has so much to offer: inexpensive travel, accommodations and beaches, lakes and rivers

  • Laos - this spectacular Asian country offers World Heritage sites, activities like caving and climbing, waterfalls and wildlife viewing opportunities: think tigers & elephants!
