MSC Meraviglia - the Largest Cruise Ship in the World

Wow, I was one of those travel industry people who thought cruise ships could not physcially get any bigger, boy was I wrong! Let's take a look at the largest cruise ship in the world, the MSC Cruises Meraviglia, which sets sail in June 2017.

Coming in at 355,209 gross tons, MSC Cruises Meraviglia will knock Royal Caribbean International's Harmony of the Seas into second place, at only 226,963 gross tons - that's a size increase of more than 55%!!

So, what's unique about MSC Cruises Meraviglia? The ultramodern accommodations on board offer more choices for families, while the exclusive MSC Yacht Club staterooms come with a butler service and a dedicated 24-hour concierge, as well as a private pool, direct elevator to the spa, a restaurant and complimentary beverages 24/7 within the MSC Yacht Club area.

There will be 12 distinct restaurants, including a gourmet ice cream parlor/creperie, along with the longest LED dome at sea that covers the ship's boutiques, shops and restaurants. To me, one of the most exciting features of the ship is the state-of-the-art Cirque du Soleil at Sea entertainment and dinner theater experience. There's also a contemporary fine art museum on the MSC Cruises Meraviglia.

For the kids, there's an amusement park and an outdoor water park, as well as 5 age-appropriate kids clubs' for those ages 0 to 17.

The MSC Cruises Meraviglia also sports smart ship technology in the form of a cruise card, bracelet or by using your smartphone, which will give you access to your stateroom, onboard payments and reservations, along with embarkation and disembarkation. The ship is also eco-friendly in that it uses energy-saving systems, as well as employs a waste water management and recycling program.

The MSC Cruises Meraviglia will sail the Mediterranean during her inaugural season with ports of call including Genoa, Naples, Messina, Italy; Valletta, Malta; Barcelona, Spain; and Marseille, France.
