Take a Puerto Rico Nearcation That's Hard to Beat!

In the northern Caribbean lies a gorgeous island - only 110 miles long and 35 miles wide – but it's rich in history, culture, nature, gorgeous white sand beaches, parks, mountains and natural wonders – this is Puerto Rico.

And it's so much closer than you think – only 3.5 hours from New York, Washington, DC, and Atlanta; 4.5 from Chicago and Dallas; 2.5 hours from Miami – Puerto Rico sports an appealing year round average temperature of 80°F.

Flying into Puerto Rico will take most visitors on a visit to San Juan, a fantastic combination of old and new. Old San Juan features Spanish colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, markets and the majestic, 500-year-old El Morro fortress, a must-see World Heritage Site. Here visitors will find quaint restaurants, cafes, galleries and museums to explore aimlessly. The Condado area of new San Juan consists of beach front hotels, fine dining, casinos and an array of entertainment, not to forget the seemingly endless Isla Verde Beach itself.

Things not to be missed include:

  • the islands of Vieques and Culebra which offer small laid back beach towns, perfect for soaking up the sun
  • a visit to Ponce including the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe
  • El Yunque Rain Forest which showcases amazing flora and fauna one of the world’s largest cave systems, Camuy Caves
  • Porta Coeli church in San German, one of the oldest churches in the Western Hemisphere
  • and the world’s largest radio telescope at the Arecibo Observatory

With no passport required for United States citizens, Puerto Rico is truly a nearcation that’s hard to beat!
